Cafe de Tuin used to be the cafe where my parents would go with their friends before I was born. And after I was born, they would take me with them and I would sleep peacefully while they had fun with their friends. When I got to an age where I could drink beer and had my own group of friends to meet up with, we would always go to Cafe de Tuin.
The people that come here are very different: old men drink their Dutch liquor called 'Jenever' at the bar, while people in their thirties have a nice night updating each other about their lives. And in between all of that were me and my high school friends, on a Friday night, hanging out until closing time.
Cafe de Tuin has such a nice atmosphere. The interior is classic and the customers are diverse, which makes it the perfect mix between modern and dated. The lighting creates a certain coziness. If you go here, make sure to order a 'Jenever' and cheer with the old men at the bar. And enjoy being in the midst of Amsterdam habitants of all ages.
