Barrique has a special place in my heart. This breakfast and lunch bar opened in December 2014, around the same time we moved into our house, a footstone away from them. Just like us, they are only a few steps away from Antwerp Berchem's railway station. And as you may or may not know, this area is very upcoming with the hipsters, locals and tourists.
The logo of Barrique, a wooden barrel, might set you off on the wrong foot. It is still a reference to what they used to be: a wine bar. The first few years they also opened in the evening for wine and tapas but soon realized that their breakfasts and lunches were way more popular. I am definitely a fan of their breakfast formulas. They have different options going from a Parisian with croissants to a Healthy with fresh yogurt, homemade granola and fruit to a simple two boiled eggs with buttered toast and crispy pancetta. Hmm...
What makes Barrique even more worth the visit is their à la carte breakfast where you can choose your own toppings. So you get a warm drink, bread and butter, fresh orange juice and then you can opt for let's say ham, cheese and salmon or an extra croissant, fruit and yogurt. If you go for the 'Grand Cru' you can choose 5 toppings and you get a glass of cava as well. Does that not sound like the perfect Sunday morning plan?

A classic is the pizza Calabrese with spicy salami, paprika, tomato, and mozzarella. Ask for some grilled onions on top to make it even tastier (you can thank me later).
