Another place that is not in the city center, but is very popular among locals is the Dageraadplaats. This vibrant square is filled with cafes and restaurants and has a nice playground for children including a big basketball court. My favorite time to visit is undoubtedly in the evening when the lamps spanning over the court light up and it seems like you're looking at a night sky filled with stars.
All the cafes and restaurants of this square are worth a visit, but Humm has a special place in my heart. It's a restaurant/cafe, that's perfect for brunch, lunch and dinner. It serves tasty middle eastern food, that is effortlessly vegan, as any dish filled with eggplants, lentils, or hummus will make you forget about meat instantly. I also really like the decor of this restaurant: many plants, light furniture, and pastel-colored walls; even the bathroom is pretty! On sunny days you can sit outside and soak up the good energies of the Dageraadplaats while enjoying your pita with some baba ganoush or homemade hummus.

A classic is the pizza Calabrese with spicy salami, paprika, tomato, and mozzarella. Ask for some grilled onions on top to make it even tastier (you can thank me later).

"Café Kamiel" in Antwerp has it all - good food, great coffee, a big-sized terrace and the perfect location. I come for their all-you-can-eat spaghetti!

"Het Elfde Gebod" sits in the shadow of the cathedral and has kept its authenticity and appearance for 40 years... This café also makes its own beer!

I've had some of my best nights in "Bier Central" in Antwerp. It's very central and easy to reach. I recommend trying the Leffe Ruby and Kwak beer...
