I am sure that local food is on everyone’s minds while traveling. You cannot visit Belgrade and leave without trying pljeskavica, which is a Serbian version of a hamburger, but much bigger and, in my opinion, much tastier.
However, there’s no need to search for fancy restaurants in Belgrade to get the best pljeskavica. It is a typical fast food sold at kiosks and most locals would agree that Mile is the ultimate king of pljeskavicas.
What makes Mile stand out from other grill masters? First of all, Mile sells only pljeskavica - no ćevapi (meat rolls), bacon, grilled chicken or any other type of meat. Whereas other pljeksavica sellers use soya, flour or potatoes to increases the weight, these pljeksavicas are made solely out of meat and onions (and ground peppers for a spicy version).
It is super important to refrain from asking for condiments. I was lucky enough the first time I went there, since I didn’t add anything but cabbage and some sour cream. If you ask for ketchup, mustard or likewise, you will be faced with a comment to go to Mc Donald’s, and you may even be left without your meal! I sometimes see people park across the kiosk, getting they pljeskavica and then eating it in a car after adding condiments bought in a local supermarket. Don’t be that kind of person.
