This is a simple place so let us keep things simple: Gricko (“Nibbler”) is a down-to-earth, no-frills shop in Belgrade selling roasted nuts. Nothing more, nothing less than delicious freshly roasted peanuts, almonds, hazelnuts, pumpkin seeds... The setting is equally simple: a few metal casseroles on a counter, a scale, a register and a few roasters behind them, of course.
Their main seller is peanuts of which they must be selling a few kilos a day. You might think that I’m pulling your leg a bit here – it’s only peanuts, right? Sure it is, but in comparison with most peanuts we’re served in shops, this is a real culinary delight. Gricko’s peanuts are fresh, mostly still warm, pleasant smelling and taste like heavenly ambrosia. Since it makes no sense to describe tastes, let’s just say that these peanuts taste ten times better than “ordinary” ones. Just taste them and your perspective on peanuts will totally change.
Slightly less popular (judging by the size of the casseroles) are their other roasted treats. If you haven’t tried roasted almonds, and to an extent roasted hazelnuts, you don’t know what you’re missing in life. Try the local favorite, the pumpkin seeds, as well.
I know you won’t be going out of your way to buy peanuts, but if you’re around and would like a snack with your beer in the open air, a salty treat after lunch or you just feel peckish – Gricko is the right place for you.
