There are people who come here for popular scientific lectures. Others visit its school of foreign languages, gallery or bookshop. However, most locals know Kolarac for its concert hall where you can listen to performances of classical music, jazz or Serbian traditional music (and everything in between) almost every evening.
Once in the grand hall you will agree with me that it has perfect acoustics. But what I really like about it is its subtle charm dating back to 1932 and warm, intimate atmosphere you won't find in other Belgrade concert halls.
Check out the monthly program and - if you enjoy music - you will find a concert that suits you. Now comes the best part: many of the performances are free! My favorite free program starts at 11:00 on Sundays (not every Sunday!) and features upcoming and still less known musicians who give their best at this legendary stage. These morning concerts give me an excellent reason to get up earlier and act as an superb counter balance to rowdy Saturday evenings. For an hour or two I can sit down quietly, enjoy the noble notes and almost meditate to music. Try it and you won't regret it – it will invigorate your day!
An important note: concerts in Kolarac are a serious matter. They start on time. They expect you to dress decently. They won't let you enter in the middle of a movement. Most importantly, they expect you to be silent. Do not tempt the acoustics of this hall!
