In the city centre you can find Strogi Centar, the most famous jazz spot in Belgrade, which also features a bit of soul and funk. It is located inside an old Dorćol house. The entire house and its garden have been converted into bars, and Strogi Centar is situated on the upper floor of the house.
I love coming to this place; from the moment you step into the building, it becomes an experience. You enter from Gospodar Jevremova Street through an old door and are faced with a long set of stairs leading to another door. If you arrive in the evening for a band performance or a party, you will be greeted by a person selling tickets. From there, you enter an apartment-like bar furnished with many antique details and adorned with murals and pictures of famous jazz, soul, funk, and Afrobeat musicians such as Grace Jones and Fela Kuti. There are a few separate rooms, so if you want to take a break from the music, you can switch to a quieter part.
When it comes to the music, you can hear the best jazz, funk, and soul bands from Belgrade and Serbia here. The energy is always great, and a night of dancing and excellent musicians is guaranteed. In addition to live bands, there are also DJs playing music on other nights. It is a great place that should be experienced.
