The question "Who would queue for soup?" might cross your mind when you see the line of people standing outside this unassuming little spot next to Boxhagener Platz. But join them, and you'll soon find out why. A neighborhood favorite, Hot Dog Soup does only the two things on its name but does them to perfection.
The homemade soups change daily and range from all-time classics like goulash to more creative recipes, such as apple and lentils. The service is always friendly, and so is the price: a generous bowl, served with the bread of your choice, costs between €4 and €6. The hot dogs cost even less and are equally delicious. They come in meat or vegan versions, with an array of toppings to choose from.
Whether for a cooling gazpacho in the summer or a warming pumpkin soup in the winter, this is my go-to place when I’m in need of something comforting, tasty and quick. Seating is available only outside, where you can slurp your soup while people-watching in the lively Boxi. For a true Berlin experience, though, get it to-go and enjoy it in the park next door with a beer from one of the nearby Spätis.
