Despite the harsh winters, there's no shortage of good ice cream in Berlin. From late spring to early autumn, the best ice cream parlors in the city have a steady stream of loyal customers at their doorsteps. In the ice cream competition, along with the famous Duo, Jones is one of the best in town, and the title for the best is often disputed between these two institutions.
While Duo specializes in classic Italian gelato, Jones focuses on developing creative flavors such as black sesame and Earl Grey with lemon shortbread. It came as no surprise when I learned that the creator behind these unique recipes is an accomplished pastry chef who trained with the best and even worked at the Ritz in Paris before opening her own business in Berlin.
All the flavors I've tried so far—and there have been quite a few—have been spot-on, but my absolute favorites are carrot cake and vanilla caramel brownies—a creamy indulgence that makes me wish for warm weather to arrive ASAP. The scoops are generous, and you can choose to have them served on their homemade buttery cones.
Also on offer are delicious American-style cookies and pints of ice cream to take away and enjoy at home. With three locations across the city, you're never too far from your next ice cream fix.
