As a book lover, how can I not collect books by publishing houses that I love? Aufbau Verlag, once the biggest belles-lettres publisher in East Germany, today hosts a big bookstore in West Berlin in their modern and beautiful Aufbau Haus on Prinzenstraße – the Prince of Prussia, to be precise, who later became Emperor William I. This bookstore is Buchhandlung Moritzplatz.
If one visits this plaza named after Maurice Prince of Orange in the heart of Kreuzberg for bars, restaurants or simply fun, why not pay a short visit to this magnificent bookstore? This is one of the first bookstores in Berlin that I got to know already back in 2014, and where I got my first Murakami in German “Von Männern, die keine Frauen haben” (Men Without Women). The bookstore has its own online shop. So for those who are on a short visit in Kreuzberg and still wish to have a read, Buchhandlung Moritzplatz offers a considerable variety online for later pickup or delivery.
