Do you fancy an authentic German lunch? The Ratskeller Rathaus Schöneberg – the city hall's historical cellar in the district of Schöneberg – might be a good option if you like canteen style and are interested in Berlin's past.
Opened in 1914, the restaurant has welcomed guests like John F. Kennedy in its beautifully restored interiors, which were also featured in the TV series Babylon Berlin. Today, the very affordable lunch options (3€ for a soup, 10€ for a fish dish) attract a mixed crowd from the neighborhood.
How to get in: When you stand in front of the city hall of Schöneberg, take the side entrance to the left. Go down the stairs and to the back of the table area, where you will find the canteen kitchen and a variety of authentic dishes like eggs in mustard sauce or potato soup with sausage. The menu is updated every week on the website ("Speiseplan als PDF"). Time to practice your German and get to know some classics of the Berliner cuisine!
