Spicy Madras Gobi? Creamy Vegetable Korma? Or a delicious plate with several different sauces and curries that comes with pita bread? Whenever I crave Indian food, OKRA in Bern is my first choice.

Their dishes have never disappointed me! Located in the Lorraine neighborhood, it’s on my way home from work, so I’m a very regular customer in this rather small restaurant. Especially in summer, when OKRA also serves food in their garden, you might meet me here, enjoying dinner with friends (come say hello if you recognize me!)

You can also have take-away lunch for a very fair price – there’s always a meaty, a fish, a vegetarian and a vegan option. I recommend bringing your own food container in order to save the world from more Styrofoam.

The service is amazing; recently we were a group of 20 people, everything went super quick and all evening not a single mix-up happened. As someone who has worked in hospitality, too, I was very impressed.

For my taste, OKRA has mastered the amount of spiciness! When I order my favourite dish Baingan Korma ‘spicy’ then I get something that’s worthy of its name – in many other places, my preference for chilis gets underestimated :). But don’t worry, in case you’re not too fond of the burning sensation, you’ll be served exactly what you want, too. Namaste!
