Technically speaking, the micro brewery Wabräu isn’t on Bernese grounds any more, but it is located in the adjacent municipality Wabern. However, I don’t want to hide this spot from you, because you can easily combine it with a Friday afternoon excursion on our local mountain Gurten (or Güschä in dialect). The brewery is a mere 5 minutes walk from the funicular station along with the stairs heading to the top for the sporty people.
I love to ring in my weekends in Wabräu. It has a very laid-back comfortable ambiance. Wabräu is one of those places where you can show up in your casual clothes without feeling out of place. It is definitely more about beer watching and drinking than people watching.
They offer more than six different kind of full bodied craft beer brewed on site. My recommendation is their amber, but they all pair wonderfully with their scrumptuous homemade pretzels and weisswurst sausages.
