Anticyclone des Açores Brussels

Dream travel bookshop

Renata from Brussels

About me: I was born and raised in Torino, in the North of Italy. Studying engineering allowed me to live in many different countries. When I came to the point where I needed to look for a job I decided I wanted to have another experience abroad. In 2003 the job offer came from Brussels, for a big multinational company. ""Anticyclone des Acores" in Brussels is one of my favorite shops - and it's so because it's a travel bookshop! Maps, travel guides... Time to dream!"

Saturdays are the only days I can go shopping when I am in Brussels, as my working hours are long. Where do I go?? Clothes shopping? Furniture shopping? Food shopping? Not at all! As the avid traveller I am, it's a travel bookshop where I spend hours and hours. Anticylone des Açores is my all-time favourite place in Brussels to do so. I like its old building, the friendly welcome of the workers but above all that everything you find there is travel-related.

You find guidebooks from all over, you find the good old maps which I love so much, you find travel books, you find globes and all you can think which can help you guide your next trip.

Sometimes I pass by there just to get inspiration for future travels or to discover some tips about the destination of my next weekend away (for those places not featured in Spotted By Locals, of course!).

Come on, it's time to dream!

I wasn’t that excited, didn’t know Brussels very well, and I always thought it was a grey and boring city. But I moved anyway and less than 6 months later this city had already changed my opinion and I have now declared it my hometown. I’ve even bought an apartment here n...
