What an interesting venue! The name says it all; “Ecuries” because these rooms used to be the stables of the horses pulling the tramways in the good old days, and “tram” because the whole building, owned by the STIB, is one of Brussels’ oldest tram “warehouses”. It’s still used as a tram depot, and it’s quite cool to be able to have a drink while looking at them through the windows.
Les Ecuries van de Tram is a local bio market/bar/social house at the very center of Schaerbeek. It’s a cultural project with a “slow-food” bio human spirit, where friendly merchants sell their ecological products. During the cold months, the Ecuries hosts the Apero du Parc on Fridays (at Parc Josaphat during nice weather months), and it is just the coziest and friendliest place to hang out. Enjoy the fireplace (I loooove fires during the dark winter months), the good music, the welcoming neighbors, and the industrial-brick vibe of the entire place. The only thing that's a bummer about the Ecuries van de Tram is their opening hours – there's so little of them! But they keep developing this creative concept, so hopefully they’ll extend that as well…
