If it looks like a normal bakery, smells like a normal bakery and sells products like a normal bakery, it is probably a normal bakery.
Yet, Succulente is not a normal bakery.
Back in 2018, Victoria and Damien were the first to start a 100% vegan bakery in Brussels. This means they don’t use any animal products. No butter. No eggs. No milk. No gelatine. Yet, no difference.
When I enter their lovely shop in Anderlecht, I can see the open baking atelier in the back and immediately smell the sweetness: many types of bread, croissants, cookies, pastries with chocolate or pudding, pies, macarons, cinnamon rolls, cheese snacks, Christmas and birthday cakes. You name it, they have it. My favourite? Do try the popcorn and caramel cookie!
Over the years, Succulente has made a real name for itself. People come from far outside of Brussels to visit this bakery. And Succulente also supplies other nice spots in Brussels such as restaurant Lucifer Lives in Brussels, coffee bar l’Alchimiste in Sint-Gillis and bakery Chanson in Anderlecht and in Jette.
Fun fact nr. 1: In Flemish, ‘Succulente’ translates as ‘a grease plant’. Rather funny, considering all that plant grease, no?
Fun fact nr. 2: Symbolically, Anderlecht is the perfect location for Succulente. It was in Anderlecht that the Belgian animal rights pioneer Jules Rühl (1864-1936) lived. In 1897, he founded the first Belgian animal rights organization. If still alive, I think I know where Jules would have gotten his Sunday croissants.

Sando is a nice nickname Japanese use for sandwiches. I love it! Sandwiches have a sauce more or less spicy and are filled with veggies and/or meat or tofu.

The "Zinneke" in Brussels is a statue of a dog that, to me, is an accurate symbol of my city with so many contrasts, but that likes to laugh about them...

There's nothing in Brussels like "Le Corbeau". It's a brasserie, a local restaurant/bar, but at night it becomes the opposite of Cinderella's fairytale...

"Bois de La Cambre" is the preferred spot for me on a sunny day in Brussels. There is more to this park than a spot to have a picnic.

"Parc Leopold" is quiet, it's small and it's hidden. It's one of my favorite places to picnic in Brussels or to rest on one of the benches.
