Anyone who has ever been to Southeast Asia can remember the endless street food stalls with strong aromas and determined shopkeepers. If you’re missing this while in Brussels, don’t hesitate to go to the Parvis de St Gilles market on Thursdays! They have many stands, but my favourite is the Thai/Laos traiteur Bounthong Luangsouphom.
Sometimes I take the time to sit down and take in the locals doing their weekly flower shopping or their grabbing a quick bite for their families at home. Many of them come to this stand to get dinner to take away, especially on the many days it is rainy and grey in Belgium. I enjoy sitting on the iconic square plastic chairs with the fish and chilli sauce decorated plastic tablecloth.
I would recommend their homemade drinks and the deliciously fried Nems, but if you have more time, grab the chance to get a full Pad Thai or curry there! Watch out: CASH ONLY!
