Entering Denden feels like entering a relative's home, and eating at Denden makes my stomach so happy! Denden serves Eritrean food, which is similar to Ethiopian, and my favorite thing to order is the vegetarian platter of spiced lentils and veggies with injera bread. It is the ultimate comfort food!
The lentils are filling and creamy; the veggies are lightly cooked and nourishing; the injera bread is the perfect balance of slightly tangy and spongey.
Throughout the meal, the owner continuously checked on my table to ask if we needed any more food or injera, which was very sweet, though unnecessary, considering how much food was on the table! The generous platter of food should definitely be shared amongst others or be prepared to take home leftovers.
Meals are supremely satisfying, and dining here is always an intimate experience. Next time that you're in Rogers Park be sure to stop by.
