On the site of a former fire station from 1890 there is now a self-organised citizen and cultural center. It gives clubs and initiatives a space to meet.
I like to go to the Alte Feuerwache (Old fire station) for the flea market. The atmosphere in this lovely courtyard is just great, the people are nice and it is not as huge as at other flea markets. The goods on offer are very mixed and you always find something exciting.

In addition to the pleasant atmosphere, there are exhibitions in a small hall. Last time, some graffitti artists were just re-spraying the outer facade.
In this courtyard, the Alte Feuerwache also has a restaurant. It offers breakfast every day and from 12:00 - 22:00 there is lunch and dinner. The kitchen is international and there is a special menu which changes daily. There is also coffee and cake and places outside in the courtyard in the middle of the flea market.
When I'm there, I love to just sit in front of the cafe or under one of the trees and watch the hustle and bustle. Then I stroll past the tables or have a look into the exhibition hall.
I have always enjoyed my afternoons there. And it is in the middle of the city! So even if there is no flea market, you can go to the restaurant in the inner courtyard to get a break from your city safari.
