What are all these people waiting for? That was my first question when I passed outside "Mehlwerkstatt" in Cologne for the first time.
It's simple: it's bread!!!
Everyone knows Germans love bread and are really proud of it. Here you can even watch the baker through the windows making fresh bread and pastries, so you know this is still one of the bakeries that actually make their dough themselves and don't get it delivered to them.
From white chocolate cinnamon rolls to focaccia to traditional German dark bread - everything you can find here is homemade and super-fresh and delicious. Great for a late Sunday breakfast at home, a hangover brunch with friends or just to have a coffee and read the newspaper with the smell of fresh bread.
If you eat it directly there, you often get it while it's still warm. For us, there is nothing better than fresh homemade bread! If you have it once, you don't want to miss it anymore.
