For many years now, Meister Gerhard has been one of my favorite spots for the evening. If you like to eat good Mediterranean food or just have a glass of wine or Kölsch, this place is always a good choice!
The atmosphere is easy-going and a little romantic due to the numerous candles in the room. Tables and chairs are vintage and all different, but together with the old cases of wine and wine bottles as decoration as well as the intimate lighting, it makes the interior so unique.
The food comes in small portions (tapas) and is prepared on-site in the open kitchen! When you feel like having a real evening meal you order a number of different tapas and share with your friends; sometimes I'm just happy with a portion of olives, manchego cheese or aioli with bread to accompany my wine.
Some tapas are always available from the menu, but there is an additional daily offer of dishes announced on two huge blackboards. I particularly recommend the tapas with fish or seafood together with the lemon aioli and the lentil salad!
Meister Gerhard is very popular. Please make sure to have a reservation if you want to sit in the nicer rooms at ground level. There are more tables in the basement.
