The Waidmeister is a cafe that lies at an old and historical place in Cologne. Here, at the "Waidmarkt", the city's archive and so called "heart of Cologne", plummeted to the ground in March 2009 and with it a lot of Cologne's history. After that accident it took about 4 years until the area was rebuilt.
Today you can hardly see what happened here. Except if you walk a bit down the street in the direction of "Severinsstr." There you might still find a construction site for the never ending project of a new metro line.
Coming back to the Waidmeister: it lies quite hidden in this new area, although it was placed super central and opened in November 2013, shortly before I moved out of the neighborhood. Now unfortunately it's not on my daily route anymore. Nevertheless I've already tried their various kinds of big homemade sandwiches, their cakes and delicious soups from a jar by a local soup-manufacturer.
The owner Holger Klos is an architect, designer and definitely a big bike lover which is shown in the interior of the spacious room, it is modern and cool but cosy at the same time. Furthermore you'll find a couple of details that prove his passion for bikes; the antlers made out of bicycle handlebars or those little blue tables that look like bicycle lane traffic signs and of course the selection of bike magazines.
