Owned by an Inchicore native, Riggers D8 is a neighbourhood-style café serving mainly breakfast/brunch and great coffee with a smile and a friendly hello. As the name suggests, this café is in Dublin 8, slightly off the beaten track. It’s a great spot if you are in the area at Kilmainham Gaol or the Modern Art Gallery and worth travelling to even if you’re not. It was only opened earlier this year and seems to be going from strength to strength ever since.
Their menu is simple but delicious. It’s small but everything on it is done to perfection, and as the chef is also the owner, there is a certain care and love put into each meal that can be hard to find. The chef seems to have a great knowledge of food, and the combination of flavours can be described as traditional with a twist. They show the suppliers and origin of almost all of the food on the menu, which is reassuring and shows how much they care.
Aside from the great breakfast and the friendly staff, another great reason to visit is their selection of sweets and cakes. Nowhere else in the neighborhoods are homemade treats of this standard sold -- believe me, I’ve checked! Their cakes aren’t usually on the menu, as they change according to what’s in season and what the chef fancies baking, I suppose!
