I really have no idea what the origins of this place are. I’ve attempted to engage in a bit of small talk with the owners but had to retreat in dismay as they all seem to have the (dying) thick Hessen dialect.
As souvenir shops go, however, you couldn’t ask for a better sign. It’s clear that this place has been a staple for years and is a step above the typical junk that gets sold on the main tourist drag.
Whether it’s a gnome or a traditional bembel (used for our applewine!) the Frankfurter Dippemarkt has all the traditional things one would typically bring home after travelling to the city. Even from a local perspective, the store is filled with all sorts of weird trinkets and odd items and where you can get a bit lost going through the assortment.
If you’re looking for a unique but authentic gift or souvenir from Frankfurt, the Frankfurt Dippemarkt is your best option.
