This beautiful wine bar has been in Frankfurt since 1948 and considers itself to be the oldest existing wine store in town. Past the hip bars and the Irish Pub on Berger Straße, you’ll enter through a passageway and will be welcomed by candles and warm light in the rear courtyard: Now you’ll have to descend around 15 stairs to reach the rustic yet cosy cellar. Large wine barrels serve as tables or else you can snuggle up with strangers on the ale-benches in the corners.
I usually order “Frankfurter” sausages with bread (eating with your hands is recommended) and a bottle of a local white wine. If you fancy any wine, they also sell whole bottles for take-away. Every now and then, they offer exclusive wine tasting evenings, so make sure to check their Facebook page for upcoming events or special offers (right now it’s Bordeaux-time).
