In other countries, salt therapy is well known. I had been heading to Italy for a while before finally rejoicing: La mer en ville, the first salt room in the whole of Suisse Romande, opened in Geneva!

If you suffer from any kind of respiratory problems (allergies, asthma, recurrent colds), you must discover this place. And even if your breathing is perfectly fine, it’s truly a gem of its kind.

Tucked away on a side street in the Servette area, La mer en ville looks plain from the outside. But once you step in, the kind owner takes you to the “salt room”, which is made entirely of salt: there’s salt on the walls, on the floor, and all around you. Then the lights switch off, and you look at a kaleidoscope of colours as you relax on your long chair (just like at the sea) and listen to the music while you breathe the salt which is blown inside the room with a small tube. You’re fully dressed, and you have absolutely nothing to do but breathe, relax, and let salt do its magic.

They claim one hour of salt room treatment gives the health benefits of a full weekend at the sea. As one session isn’t always enough, you can get a 5 or 10 session card. What can I say: I tried it, and it works! When I get out, I breathe better, I feel better, and I am fully refreshed.
