The Locavore grocery store and zero-waste food café arrived in Glasgow in 2018. The first store opened on the Southside of the City and this has since been heaven where you can experience Scotland’s growing eco food movement.
The grocery provides a variety of local and seasonal products grown from their organic farms or directly sourced from small producers. There is always a selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, mostly loose, and a range of appetizing artisan bread, dairies, and cheese. There is a self-service bulk section for cereals, dried fruits, pasta, herbs, and spices, and refill stations for milk, oil, and vinegar. Eco cleaning products and toiletries are also available at an affordable price in a dedicated section.
Located within the shop itself, the Locavore Café is bright and colourful. Menus are locally sourced and prepared from their own organic garden or network of small producers. They generally feature a daily special, a soup or stew, and a ploughman’s plate including a selection of salads and dips with cheese, ham and bread. Meals follow the seasons and availability, and use excess produce to prevent waste. It's all so delicious and healthy!
If you want to eat well and participate in a better food system, this is the place to be! Bon appétit!
