The Stewart Memorial fountain (on the east side of Kelvingrove Park) is an excellent place to find a bench to read a book, eat lunch, or simply enjoy watching life pass by. It is quite striking in design, with a Scottish-French Gothic Style. The fountain has recently undergone a renovation involving draining, cleaning, and painting; however, it is a working water feature once again and looks better than ever.
There is no comparison when it comes to lunches in the West End. When someone asks, I always recommend a trip to Dough Man's Land and eating your pizza around this atmospheric fountain. In all seasons, you can expect to see commuters, runners, and dog walkers passing through.
The fountain is a linking point for most of the footpaths through Kelvingrove Park. To me, it feels very peaceful and relaxing to stop for a moment and find a place to sit and be still... amongst the city's high-energy surroundings in the heart of the park.
If the weather is warm and dry, I arrive ready in full picnic mode with a blanket or towel to lie on the ground. The fountain is right next to the football pitch, which makes it the perfect spot to throw a frisbee or kick a football with your pals.
