In late January 2023, local artist 'The Rebel Bear" (who goes around dressed as a giant stuffed bear) blessed Great George Street with a potentially politically charged mural of a very angry wee guy.
He is depicted swinging an axe at a parking sign, which exists in reality, blending the painting with its surroundings beautifully. Not only this but the pole holding the sign is 'chopped' and bent to an angle, my favourite detail of this piece.
I laugh every time I see the child's appropriately plastic car, seen to be ticketed several times, which is potentially a nod to grievances of locals living in the area towards new parking laws.
The painting is beautifully finished, utilising a style where the artist cuts stencils and plans out the image before bringing the stencils on location to paint efficiently and with multiple layers to create one cohesive piece.
