Welcoming all who arrive to Glasgow from Buchanan Street Bus Station, the Clyde Clock is one of the first memories I have of visiting the city as a child. Its striking and unique design is definitely eye-catching, and to think that thousands of rushed passers-by glance at the clock every day on their commute is a special feeling every time I pass it.
The sculpture which houses the clock looks to me like a rushed person, stumbling forward, potentially late for work. This seems like a representation of the fast, non-stop nature of the city.
Ironically enough, it is documented that the completion of the structure itself was also late, further adding to the humour behind the symbolism.
