I am a big fan of art shows. Of course I love the Deichtorhallen and all the other big art museums in our city, like the Kunsthalle or the Bucerius Kunst Forum, but I also quite enjoy the work of less known artists in smaller galleries.
One of my favorite galleries to go to is the Affenfaust Gallery (monkey's fist). It is located on the Kiez, one of the more alternative areas of Hamburg. The gallery hosts changing art shows, which mainly focus on urban art. The work displayed is usually great!
For me, going to a smaller gallery instead of a museum often makes the experience more personal, as you might be able to speak to the owner of the art gallery or even the artist himself about his work. I also like going to the vernissages, the opening of the art shows, to get a little introduction into the art displayed. Just check out their website or Facebook profile for their current program!
