Surrounded by seafood restaurants, industrial harbor buildings and shops selling fresh fish, you will find this café right across the harbor. Just like its location, Café Schmidt Elbe has a really maritime, Hanseatic touch. Under the high ceiling you will see sails from small sailing boats, there are anchors on the cookies and the café is styled in a beautiful, simple mixture of shabby chic and industrial design. On the menu, you will find a small selection of non-sweet food like quiche or baguettes, but I mainly like to go there for their huge variety of wonderful, tasty cakes, cookies and tartlets, which are displayed in a showcase, so you can take a look at them before ordering.
This is a great place to enjoy a delicious piece of cake and the flair of the harbor offside the rather touristy area of Landungsbrücken. You can even watch them bake their pastries. And by the way – Café Schmidt also offers nice breakfast and ice cream and they sell their own bread and espresso.
