Gängeviertel is where I go to experience the alternative side of Hamburg. It's a hidden little treasure in the middle of the cold office blocks in the center.

Oberhafenkantine is a true Hamburg original. It's the only harbor canteen still working. But it's not just the unique feel — I also really love its food!

"Bistro Carmagnole" Hamburg is protected by a holy oath: never tell tourists about this restaurant. And I get it... but for you, I'm making an exception.

"Oniro" is a Greek restaurant in Hamburg that has plenty of variety, and I love the zucchini chips. The best is that they have tapas/meze sizes available.

"Mexiko Strasse Taquería" in Hamburg really reminds me of the food I had next to the Mexican border. Their tacos aren't the same you'll find everywhere...

"Rialto" in Hamburg is on an island, so that makes me feel a little bit like I'm in Venice! The food isn't cheap but it's beautiful -- as are the waiters!
