Yoğurtçu Park is a small park with a running track, tennis courts, a ball-sports court, a ping-pong table, a playground, and plenty of benches. The park’s greenery is always well-maintained — dense enough to create an escape-to-nature feel in the middle of the city. The unquestionable regulars are the well-fed stray cats and dogs — along with their human companions — who are present at all hours of the day. But there are also frequent visitors who come to play ball games such as tennis, basketball, or volleyball on the park’s various courts, to have a picnic on the green lawn, or to enjoy a hot drink and snack at the café.
The park is situated next to a canal, separated by a walking trail that starts at one end of the Moda peninsula and continues all the way to the Bostancı area, approximately 15 km away to the west. The canal serves as a marina for numerous small boats and is crowned by a small bridge at one end of the park. Groups of rowing boats belonging to the local rowing club are also kept on a makeshift landing just under the bridge, across the canal.
The benches lining the border between the park and the trail offer a quiet form of entertainment: watching how the early risers of the neighbourhood start their day. Runners, bikers, rowers on long boats, groups of dog walkers with their hubbub and laughter… In winter, even herons and cormorants sometimes grace the canal with their visits.
