The parts of Kazimierz close to Orzeszkowej tram stop don't get much of the tourists' attention. This might not be a common opinion, but I'd definitely say this area is one of my favourites. These streets have a desolate vibe and hide lots of unique spots, with Teatr Barakah Art Cafe being one of them.
Situated in a former mikvah building (a type of Jewish bathhouse), Barakah makes an excellent use of the space. The majority of it serves as a one-of-a-kind theatre. At Barakah they're not afraid to raise difficult questions, connect different cultures and means of expression. These bold acts and ideas are brought to life by the city's best actors, musicians, writers and artists of any kind. All the plays are in Polish, but if you want to get an authentic feel of the local drama community, there's no better place to go.
The second part of Barakah is the ArtCafe, a space that welcomes all creatives and art enthusiasts. Here's where you can enjoy some material food, soul food, deep conversation or peace and contemplation. Last but not least, they host exhibitions and concerts on a regular basis. Their space for live music is dim and cameral, but trust me, I've seen some great shows there and I'm sure there's more coming. Check out the event calendar on their website and don't hesitate to visit this unique spot!
