Brockley Market is a Southeast London institution, bringing to life a usually uninviting gravel car park each and every Saturday. Standing out as a true gem amongst the myriad of markets in the capital, what sets Brockley Market apart is the expertly curated selection of traders offering fresh produce, ready-to-eat street food, beers & wines and other epicurean delights. Its slightly off the beaten track location means it predominantly serves the local community but its award-winning status has meant that people from further afield are visiting too.

I find it a useful place to pick up unique gifts for food-loving friends and family; things such as local honey, locally made pickles or natural wines. The fresh produce on offer is always of a very high quality – the super-fresh fish is often supplied directly from boats on the south coast. When I feel deserving of a proper treat, it doesn’t get much better than a dry aged steak from The Butchery, cooked at home and enjoyed with a nice bottle of red wine. Sure, it’s slightly pricier than the supermarkets, but the quality speaks for itself.
