Whacko is the coolest gift shops in LA. This, and Leanna Lin's Wonderland. It's real original and has everything from art to magical gifts and nostalgic items. I came here looking for birthday gifts, and bought myself cute things I never knew I needed like: Owl Tarot Cards, a heart puzzle that teaches the entire anatomy of the heart, and a beautiful birthday card embossed in gold that says, "Today, The Universe Revolves Around You". The gifts here are very unique.
The vibe is right. This is the kind of place that supports the independent spirit. Many of the items sold within the store are from local vendors. There's a great variety of books, toys, and essential oils too. I bought a Jasmine essential oil made in LA that still lasts to this day.
The best part about Whacko, is that inside, there's La Luz de Jesus Christo Art Gallery. One of the most fascinating, underground, independent art galleries in Los Angeles. There's every type of art here, from painting to collage to sculpture to fabric to comics and drawings. I recommend coming for an open house/exhibition.
Together, Whacko and La Luz de Jesus Christo are an LA gem. They're the perfect place to stop and shop in LA. The gifts are original and the vibes are right. I highly recommend them! Real eclectic. Real original.
