For most, the idea of a movie theater conjures up images of plush seats, the smell of fresh popcorn and a fizzy glass of coke. Since the first cinema opened in the 1890s, going to the movies has become a universal phenomenon. A few hours where the viewer experiences a whole new reality and finds a momentary respite from the bustle and distractions of everyday life.
Reminiscent of Electric Cinema, London, Biograf Spegeln is a standalone movie theater in Malmo and was the country's first movie theater to offer an a la carte food experience in the cinema hall. But Spegeln is more than just a movie theater. This 1930s building hosts 3 serviced salons, with a bar that serves beers, whiskey or wine to accompany your decently sized meal cooked in their in-house kitchen.
Each salon has plush armchairs with a table in the middle and a dimly lit lamp to help you find your drink or eat your meal. The eight-channel surround sound audio system and 4K ultra high definition screens make any movie a truly pleasurable experience to watch.
Besides the top blockbusters, Spegeln shows documentaries, concerts, operas and historic classics, including the likes of the Blair Witch Project and Conan the Barbarian, which allow you to take a trip down cinema history in this well-preserved historic building.
So, if you find yourself in town and wanting a truly unique movie experience, definitely check out Biograf Spegeln for a show.
