Japanese immigration to Mexico began in the late 19th century to found coffee growing plantations in the state of Chiapas.  Although this initiative failed, there was a lot of  Japanese investment in the country. Since then, Asian-inspired spots have been popping around Mexico City and in some other cities in the country, especially restaurants. We Mexicans sure love Japanese food.

One of my favorite Japanese restaurants is Wan Wan in Colonia Juarez. I have travelled to Japan a couple of times and this place definitely gets that authentic taste that I’ve got to know.

It’s a really cozy restaurant where you have that feeling that you have entered another country. Get at seat by the bar, try out some Sake or some other Japanese drink and enjoy your meal while enjoying the live kitchen show. I love how crowded it gets  and how most of the clientele of the restaurant are actually people from Japan, either living in Mexico, tourists or on a business trip so you can definitely feel the asian environment and get into a nice conversation by the bar.

Steps away from Wan Wan dare to try one of the best ramens in the city, at a Ramen bar also owned by them.
