McGill University is one of the top universities in Canada, with a good international reputation. Its main campus, in the middle of Montreal’s downtown core, is a series of buildings spread out across a sprawling field and an inclined road. It’s somehow scenic and makes for a nice little walk, especially in the fall. Inside one of the nondescript buildings is the Redpath Museum, a place that more people should know about.
The Redpath Museum is a two-story natural history museum full of impressive archaeological artifacts and curiosities. They've packed a lot into the oval-shaped rooms, and there’s a surprise around every corner. From mummies and minerals to wolverines and dinosaurs, it’s all there. My favourite section is Ethnology, where you can see artifacts from world cultures including Ancient Egypt, Ancient Mediterranean, Oceania and South America.
