I’m not a sommelier, but I like wine. And it’s a pity for me that in most restaurants or bars you can’t just try the wine. You either have to trust the bartender and buy an (expensive) bottle, or choose from a usually short and not-the-best “wine by glass” list.
This bar (formerly known as I Like Wine, now they renamed to XwhyN for “ex-wine”) is different: you can choose any wine you want to try out of their huge wine list, and they will bring a little for free to you to try. For me, it’s a great find: whatever mood I am at any particular time, I can choose the perfect wine to make me happy at that particular time. Usually I try 5-6 different wines until I find the right one. Recently they introduced a bunch of biodynamic/organic wines, some of them Russian origin.
The staff is excellent. They know everything about the menu and the wines. They’re always friendly and make me visit this place over and over again, even appointing my business meetings there.
The food is decent also: I usually take a sit not at the table, but at the bar upstairs, around the kitchen, where I can see the various foods being cooked, and ask the waiter to repeat “the same” for me. They updated the Chef and menu recently, making it more like “haute cuisine” and splitting it for breakfast/lunch/dinner lists, and you should definitely bite into their salmon tar-tar (made with avocado and youghurt) and hummus made of 6 different vegetables like beetroot, carrot and eggplant. “Parmentier de canard” is delicious. As always before, oysters and mussels are awesome.
