You don‘t have to be religious to find the Asamkirche a magical place. Merged with the buildings next to it you might miss this little church when walking past. To me it is one of the most beautiful old churches in Munich and I always show to the friends who come to visit. The more time you spend in it the more details you notice. My favourite part of the church is the ceiling at the entrance which shows the sun with its rays.
The church was built by the Asam brothers who belong to the most important church architects of the German late Baroque, they have also built many other churches in Bavaria. Planned as a private church it was erected right next to the architect‘s home, through a window they could look directly onto the high altar.
The population of Munich really weren‘t happy about the fact they were not supposed to use this amazing piece of architecture and they successfully forced the Asam brothers to share the experience with everyone.
