I like those bars that are built around the concept of being in someone's apartment. Like a home party. You have the combined energy of going out and at the same time the relaxed atmosphere of being in a friendly environment. Andre Til Høyre is this kind of place disguised as a funky cocktail bar. Built as a sophisticated apartment with a hall, living rooms, and a kitchen. I normally find myself enjoying a conversation with friends around the amazing large kitchen table which sometimes opens up the possibility of meeting strangers as the place is small but far from claustrophobic. The bartenders pride themselves over making drinks based on the taste preferences of those who order, and though the drinks are quite pricy, even for an Oslo context, they are made with warmth and care. Still, though, it is the atmosphere and not the drinks that bring me back to Andre Til Høyre.
The place can be a bit hard to find. Located inside Håndslag, it is found on the 2nd level to the right, with the famous pizza place Girotondo on the 1st level to the left. Just ask the person at the entrance of Håndslag on the way in and they will show you. Closed Sun/Mon.
I come to this sophisticated cocktail bar to spend the evening with friends and then move on to another place in Youngstorget when I feel like the murder on the dance floor and looking to show off some moves.
