One of my favorite areas in Oslo is Kampen. This traditional area has a nice combination of old traditional wooden houses from the 19th century mixed with more modern apartment houses. An area located between the metro and a few main roads, this small area is great to explore and I enjoy coming here on a Sunday afternoon. The lifeline of this area is Bø street which goes through the main square where there lots of people hanging out in front of the church and just enjoying some time off.
I like to pick up a coffee from Kampen Kaffe & Bar and either sit down in the street and watching life and people passing by or continue around and watching the fascinating wood buildings with a breath of historical times, being built between 1859 and 1878. As I enjoy my interest in both history and periodic architecture, Kampen is a great place to let thoughts wander or to go for a walk with friends. It can also easily be combined with a longer walk to areas like Tøyen, Vålerenga, or Gamlebyen.
