Oslo is the most multicultural city in Norway, with over 30% of its population having an international background. Many immigrants established in Oslo also come from various African countries contributing to, among many other aspects, a rich cultural and culinary city life. Nordic Black Theatre plays a very important role in promoting diversity in the artistic production of Oslo.
Located in Grønland, one of the most diverse areas of Oslo, Nordic Black Theatre is a self-run theatre foundation established in 1992. It has its own theater school, produces a wide range of cultural events such as concerts and theatrical plays of various local and international artists with a greater focus on the Global South.
The staff at Nordic Black Theatre are extremely friendly and welcoming. The venue, originally a Methodist church from 1895, has an excellent acoustic and its neoclassical interior is intimate and cozy. Check their program on their website and when visiting Oslo and searching for good quality live music concerts - this location is highly recommended.
PS. The picture is of a recent concert of the Cape-Verdean singer based in Norway, Ary Morais.
