Tacconelli's Pizza is not the place to go on a whim, so spontaneous diners beware. A visit here needs to be planned since ordering your dough ahead of time is a requirement. The restaurant does not cater to the masses but is insistent on quality. Tacconelli's takes pizza dough orders everyday they are open. They only make so much pie dough so when it is gone, then it is gone. The pizza shop is a one man, one oven operation so expect to wait. You will be glad you did though when you taste what you have waited all night for.
They are known for tomato pie. Being from the Midwest, tomato pie is not something I had ever heard of. It only takes one bite though to fall in love for the tomato goodness. The pizza shop is not a place to get the new wave gourmet pizza's that you are finding in all of the hip restaurants these days. Instead you will only find true artisan pizzas made by a tradesman that has honed his craft. Tacconelli's is not in the center of the city, so it will require a bus or subway ride. This just gives you the opportunity to see more of the city.

Besides the packed schedule of shows, they are also a daytime coffee shop that opens its bar at noon. They have a great (rotating) wine selection as well!
