There are people who eat fast food and there are people who go to restaurants or cook at home. Similarly, there are people who go to a regular cinema to watch Hollywood "junk food" and people who don't (but I am not saying that first ones are worse than the second ones. Some want to relax, some want some added value). In the big cinemas of Riga there are usually only a few movies a month which are worth my time. If you are more like me, then there are some opportunities in Riga. Bize is one of them.
If you want to see something non-mainstream, Kino Bize is for you. The cinema program includes challenging and independently produced movies; movies which are not just simple entertainment, but make you think - art films and documentary films. Most of them have received awards at different film festivals.
Here you will not see crowds of people: Bize is small, with just 70 seats. And the location is something you would never expect for a cinema, on the first floor of an old residential house (enter the building's yard, turn right and push button no 2 to enter).
Kino Bize holds three to five screenings every day. Movies are shown in their original language with subtitles. Before a film session you can have a cup of tea in the cafeteria (sorry guys no popcorn in this cinema!)
