Rome is an infinite city, with thousands of aspects. Apart from the many temples and gorgeous buildings, Rome's beauty dwells in those majestic ruins that are everywhere inside the town. Those are precisely the vibes you can feel while sitting here between Saint Nicholas church and Cecilia Metella's tomb, a peaceful oasis along the ancient Appia Antica road.
You have to make it a point to reach this place, as it's a bit outside of the city center and apart from one bus that rarely passes, there are not many connections. Another way to come here is by bike, and by so doing, you can take the opportunity to ride some extra kilometers on the Appian way, an ancient Roman road we can still see and walk along today.
Coming back to our two ghost buildings standing at the side of the road, they might seem to you not as attractive as other incredible constructions like the Colosseum or Saint Peter, for example. Nevertheless, Cecilia Metella's tomb creates the scenery for the perfect view and frame for my dreamy time. In this peaceful place, I can relax and spend time writing and diving deeper into my thoughts away from all sorts of distractions.
Probably the fact that in the past Cecilia Metella's tomb was transformed into a watchtower and around it arose a fort is what makes me feel safe and repaired from all the constraints of life. Or maybe it's just a feeling I have while staying here.
