The architecture of Grace Cathedral is beautiful. It always brings a little smile to my face driving up California Street. From any angle, this Episcopal cathedral is breathtaking. Within the walls of this French Gothic piece of history yoga lovers from all over come on Tuesday nights. Yoga on the Labyrinth is a local favourite for experienced and new yoga students. The Labyrinth on the floor of the Cathedral is based on the medieval labyrinth of Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Chartres in France.
Darren Main, a friend and well-known author and teacher in the yoga community, put together this offering for anyone to come and enjoy. Darren's warm and welcoming spirit is contagious. "You don't need to be flexible or have prior experience with yoga to benefit. All that is required is a desire to quiet the mind, open the heart and heal the body." That says it all.
Classes are mostly taught by Darren. But a variety of local teachers step in when needed. The live music adds something special. A didgeridoo, harp or, even, tibetan singing bowls can accompany class on a Tuesday.
Donations are suggested but no one is turned away. There are guidelines and helpful hints on the website for those who are new to Yoga on the Labyrinth. Flowing through a gentle, nurturing session under the dome is amazing. Bring your mat!
