Some things never go out of fashion. Other things have been out of fashion for so long that they are now back in fashion. Held Over has both of these. Now, I'm not the most knowledgeable on fashion, but nevertheless I enjoy coming in here and seeing what eclectic and sometimes outlandish stuff they have on display. The clothes range from more practical articles like flannels and jeans to the most niche and eccentric like top hats and leather trench coats. The customers as well are always a mix of those just stopping in to make a quick buy and those meticulously searching the shelves for the ideal garment, but the staff are very accommodating regardless of which category you fall into.
For those into thrifting and vintage, Haight Street is about as good as it gets. The whole stretch of Haight between Ashbury and Clayton has several used clothing stores that cooperate with each other. If you don't find what you're looking for, chances are it's next door. But Held Over is unique in that you can walk in and buy a shirt that someone may have worn to Woodstock over 50 years prior. And even if you're not buying, they are completely fine with people just coming in and browsing, seeing what pieces of history they can dig up among the shelves.
